For centuries the church has found the Doctrine of Union With Christ to be foundational to our understanding of the Christian life. But like most foundational doctrines, this one too has too by-enlarge dissipated from the daily Christian's mind and conversation. Arguably, the reason why our Christian walks often feel impersonal and fragmented, is because we've forgotten that this whole thing is meant to be done with (union) a person (Christ). In fact every blessing of God through the Gospel hinges in the fact that we are in Christ, and that Christ is in us. Divorced from this understanding, no matter how hard we try, the Christian will always confuse the true point of their salvation with the components of their salvation. Growth of character, love of neighbour, and even getting to heaven itself, are merely the components of our salvation, not the point. The point, the reason why we have all the things we just mentioned, and engine that will keep us going, is our union with Christ.
